Archived from groups: rec.video.desktop Good evening, I received my Canopus ADVC110 today. I've hooked it to my VCR according to the instructions in the manual, but nothing happens. No lights, no anything. I'm totally ignorant here.
Is there a power button on it that I'm not seeing? I have one end of the cable that came with it plugged into the DV IN/OUT terminal at the back and the other end plugged into the fire wire port on my computer.
I have the VCR plugged into the front composite ports on the front. Thank you for any help, and if anyone gets a good laugh out of this, I'll be laughing with you:) Thanks, Mary.

Assuming it's like the ADVC-100, you should have the power adapter plugged into the DC-in jack on the back of the unit (the other end needs to be plugged into a wall outlet or power strip, of course). And there is a power button in the back on the left (if you're viewing it from the front). Archived from groups: rec.video.desktop Mary wrote: It's the ADVC-110. That's the only way to get power from your computer to the Canopus box as 4-pin cable is for signal transfer only. Customer support said it's either got to be the cable, the unit itself or my firewire port. My camera works fine without the AC adapter, in each of the ports. They're sending me a replacement unit and cable.
Thank you all much. You're an awesome group! Mary It may still be lack of power from your firewire port on the computer - the camera does not use power from the computer so it would work if there was no power on the port - only signal.
I wonder if there is something in the BIOS to enable power on the firewire port?? I don't think mine does, but then I never use the power pins so I don't know if they are hot either. Archived from groups: rec.video.desktop 'Mary' wrote in message [email protected]. I'm using a Dazzle Fire Wire card I bought for somewhere around $75 at Circuit City. If I should need to replace that, what kind would you recommend? Thanks again Mary Not sure off hand - my one is an ATI card that is no longer made and the one on my other system is on the motherboard (ASUS). You definitely want one that is OHCI compliant (which most are these days).
If you don't have usb2, you might want to look into a combo card that has both usb2 and firewire on it. Generally, they just sort of work, but again, I have not had the need to use the power pins - I have the Canopus ADVC-100 which does come with an external 'wall wart' power supply and works very well.
